New, Smaller Xbox 360 Motherboard Leaked on Chinese Forum

This generation of gaming consoles is all about minor hardware revisions. The Sony PS3 has already slimmed down and dropped a few hundred dollars from its price, but now it looks like the Xbox 360 may be up next. Aleaked pic of what purports to be a new motherboard for the console was posted to a Chinese forum. The board is significantly smaller which hopefully means a more svelte console.

The board looks much smaller than the current version, and appears to have a CPU/GPU combo chip. There’s also an extra SATA port present. We’re apt to believe the authenticity of this board seeing as Microsoft is currently hiring a Motherboard Design Engineer to “implement and verify the motherboard and other various sub-system boards that make up the XBOX 360 product line.”

We don’t know if this hardware revision will come with a price cut, but don’t bet on it. The Xbox managed to beat out the Wii in monthly sales for the first time last month. The PS3 had no choice but to drop in price to be competitive. Would a smaller, cooler console with a few extra goodies get you to drop some cash for a new 360?

Microsoft Releases Out-of-Band Security Patch for Internet Explorer

Last week’s cyber attacks, that targeted Google and several other large U.S. companies, has certainly gotten Microsoft’s attention. The attack was orchestrated, in part, through a zero-day flaw in Internet Explorer (IE). The flaw seems to be obscure, and restricted to IE 6 and IE 7, but that hasn’t stopped Microsoft from releasing an out-of-cycle patch for IE.

Microsoft has acknowledgde the flaw, and says the “vulnerability exists as an invalid pointer reference within Internet Explorer. It is possible under certain conditions for the invalid pointer to be accessed after an object is deleted. In a specially-crafted attack, in attempting to access a freed object, Internet Explorer can be caused to allow remote code execution.”

Microsoft, in an announcement posted today, says the confusion surrounding this particular attack has compelled Microsoft to act now. Microsoft’s primary advice: upgrade to IE 8, which is not affected by this flaw. If you don’t plan to upgrade, then updates for earlier versions will be made available, with specific timing of the updates to be announced tomorrow. In the meantime, Microsoft suggests using the workarounds and mitigations provided inSecurity Advisory 979352.

Syn Flood Attacks? Try this to stop it.

Here is a solution i found that does work some in slowing down these syn floods or DDos attacks. These guys use IRC bot net attacks. Google it if you dont know how they work. But for all you Server providers i been helping some people on some programs to stop these guys from attacking there servers any longer.

Heres the step by step

Download Now or go to the Downloads section under Servers

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\SERVICES\TCPIP\PARAMETERS]

Goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Win dows

Under Windows, add a new key called Psched, it may already be there.

Under the key Psched, add a DWORD value named “MaxOutstandingSends” without quotes, of course.

Once you have created the DWORD value named MaxOutstandingSends, right click on it and click modify.

Under value data, put 65535. Under base, Hexadecimal should be chosen.

Here’s a few other registry values/keys to stop DoS/DDoS attacks in the event that you have a weak connection and your system can’t even withstand 65535 connections:
